Troy A. Davis

Troy Arnol Davis

Rejoice and be happy for his peace.

Cheers to the life of a good man,

A committed healer and a giver,

An inspiration for those of us still here

To embrace the memory of all he gave us.

Nathan Davis--grandson

Troy Arnol Davis, of Karnes City, Texas, left this world for a better place on March 17, 2009.  Known by most as “T.A.” he was a young and vibrant eighty-seven year old spirit who embraced life with enthusiasm, found joy in creative projects, and continually inspired those who knew him best.

He was born on April 5, 1921, in Wood County, Texas, to Giles Martin Davis and Mellie Franklin Davis, and grew up in Gladewater, Texas. In 1942, at the age of 21, he joined the U.S. Navy and served his country as a signalman during World War II in the U.S. Atlantic Fleet, receiving an honorable discharge in 1946 as a First Class Petty Officer.

Upon his return from the war, he married Elizabeth Ward in 1947 and began to work for Chevron as a Plant Operator.  He continued his career with Chevron for thirty-nine years until his retirement in 1985 at the age of sixty-two.  In 1986, he then became a certified reflexologist and hypnotherapist and a member of the American Institute of Reflexology. His second career practicing Reflexology in Karnes City and surrounding areas, flourished for twenty-two years, until he officially closed his office doors in 2008, due to illness at the age of eighty-six.

Due to his patriotism, he believed fervently in statesmanship and exercised his citizen’s voice by voting and serving as a lifetime member of the Republican Presidential Task Force. A multi-talented individual, T.A. enjoyed many decades of playing his collection of harmonicas and could often be found entertaining family and friends, with his foot lively tapping as he played. As a published singer, songwriter, and poet, he was listed in the Marquis’s Who’s Who in America, a general biographical directory of notable Americans, and was named a Distinguished Member of the International Society of Poets.

An avid and rugged outdoorsman, he was also known for his year-round vegetable garden and enjoyed sharing his produce with everyone.  In addition to all he loved to do, he was also a jokespinner, fisherman, husband, father, and a deeply spiritual man who will be missed by his family and those whose lives he touched.

All of his eight siblings preceded him in death, including Emmie Marzelle Shelton and Archie F. Davis. He is survived by his devoted wife and life partner of sixty-two years, Elizabeth “Liz” Davis, who never left his side for the final eight months of his life. He is also survived by his four children, sons Tony A. Davis of New Braunfels and Charles R. Davis of Karnes City, daughters Leesa Davis Crabb of Karnes City and Joi Davis of San Antonio; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, his loving companion and cat, Ashes, and a host of family and friends.
